The ALFA III Programme by the European Commission and its 1st Call for Proposals has been launched. Networks of Higher Education Institutions and other relevant cooperation institutions are invited to prepare applications for grant funding under the new programme on higher education cooperation for Latin America. Projects will include "Joint Partnerships" of European and Latin American institutions and "Structural Measures" aiming to reform education systems in Latin America. As a third component "Accompanying Measures" will be funded. The deadline for proposals' presentation is the 16th of June 2008

Tthe activities supported by ERASMUS (the higher education chapter of the SOCRATES II programme for education in Europe):
Covering the period 2000-2006, SOCRATES/ERASMUS aims at improving the quality and the "European dimension" of higher education, including both universities and « extra-university » institutions. The participating countries are the 15 Member States of the European Union, the 3 countries of the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and all the Associated Countries in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Cyprus and Malta . Overall responsibility for implementing SOCRATES/ERASMUS lies with the European Commission (Directorate-General Education and Culture: Directorate A; Unit 2)

SOCRATES MINERVA
The Minerva action seeks to promote European co-operation in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Open and Distance Learning (ODL) in education. The Action has three main objectives, (1) to promote understanding among teachers, learners, decision-makers and the public at large of the implications of the use of ICT in education, as well as the critical and responsible use of ICT for educational purposes; (2) to ensure that pedagogical considerations are given proper weight in the development of ICT and multimedia-based educational products and services; and (3) to promote access to improved methods and educational resources as well as to results and best practices in this field.
